Stockholm Takes on Tranås in 2009 Swedish Finals
Defending champs Stockholm will be playing this year’s Swedish Elite Division winners Tranås in the 2009 Swedish baseball finals August 29-30.
Stockholm, which finished in second place this year, beat last year’s co-finalist Karlskoga at home in two straight games in the best of three semi-finals Saturday, 5-2 and 7-4.
Tranås split Saturday’s semis with Leksand, losing the first game 4-3, but storming back in game 2 11-3. In Sunday’s decider, Leksand led 5-3 in the bottom of the 9th, when Tranås tied the score. Tranås went on to win a finals spot with a run in the 14th inning, making the final score 6-5.
This coming weekend’s finals will be played in Tranås, since they took first place in league play, with two games on Saturday, and a third, if necessary, on Sunday.

France Shuts out Sweden
On day two of the final round of the European Baseball Championships, France shut out Sweden 10-0.
Starting pitcher Mattias Stenis gave up 8 earned runs in the first three innings. With the loss, Sweden is out of the running to qualify for the 2008 Olympics.
Sweden’s final game, against Spain, will be broadcast by Eurosport 2 on Sunday at 17:30 Central European Summer Time.

Rättvik in more than 2 years.

Finland Wins Nordic Championships
Finland won the 2007 Nordic Baseball Championships, going undefeated against Norway and the Swedish Juniors.
Norway and the Swedish Juniors split (their only wins), but since Sweden scored fewer runs against Norway than Norway against Sweden, under the tournament rules Norway finished second.
Norway lost both of its games Sunday, losing to Finland 13-3, and going down to Sweden 8-4.
Nordic Championships Underway
The Nordic Baseball Championships are underway in the Swedish city of Karlskoga.
The adult national teams of Finland and Norway face the Swedish Junior National Team, as the Swedish adult national team would dominate. Last year the junior Swedes won the tournament.

Stenis Throws Perfect Game

According to the Swedish Baseball Federation website, Stenis threw 12 A former Swedish national team pitcher, in 2004 Stenis pitched for neighboring Leksand but only threw 4 2/3

Stockholm Lighting

Stockholm opens its 2007 season Saturday with a doubleheader against visiting Karlskoga. But the new lighting at the Skarpnäck field is still not quite in place.
According to a post on the Stockholm website, the lights will be ready by August 1, while it will be another three weeks before the fences and some other areas are finished. However. the piles of dirt around the warning track should be cleared away by the weekend.
The batting cage will be restored, but will be shortened for the time being, as will the bullpens.
Schedule of the Cupwinners Cup Qualifier

The Stockholm Baseball field in Skarpnäck
Stockholm will be hosting an international baseball tournament next year, the first since the European B Championships in 2001.
The European Cupwinners Cup Qualifier will determine which national teams will move up to the Confederation of European Baseball A pool. It will be held at the Stockholm Baseball and Softball Club’s homefield in Skarpnäck, south of Stockholm, June 11-17. From: BaseballEurope.com
Here is the approved game schedule for the Cupwinners Cup Qualifier which will be played in Stockholm June 12-17, 2007. Some facts from the CEB competition rules 2006 (from the CEB Website):
No ruling on bats so aluminum bats are allowed, eligible players are minimum 15 years of age.
Teams must have a minimum of 12 players.
Local transport charges are for account of and to be arranged by the Organizer.
The Winner of the competition qualifies for the Cupwinners Cup 2007.
Preliminary Team Roster (PTR) to be sent in one month before the start of the competition (maximum 40 players).
On this list the number of foreign players is unlimited.
The Final Team Roster (FTR) (maximum of 20 players) to be presented at the Technical meeting scheduled at Stockholm on Monday 11th June 2007 at 20.00 hours.
On this FTR the number of foreign players is limited to 3 players without further restrictions to the line up.
For this C.E.B. competition a foreigner is every player who is from a different nationality of which the Club is representing.
The FTR should bear the passportnumber and signature of the players also. CEB individual licenses are no more required.
